Look we all saw dances with wolves and the actor Buffalo's went down with a tiny arrow. Your actor Buffalo must not have been union. I think you should have done it with a farmers cow,..... probably cheaper and cows were probably once out in the food chain. I don't find the Atlatl to be accurate enough to hunt with, I'd rather see you drop animals with your self bows. I really enjoy your bow hunt's. I get what you not saying the word your searching for is penetration,......it is possible a spear so light it could just glanced off. I saw a kid hunting with a crossbow he was shooting at a small doe angled away and he shot and it sounded like a drum beat when the arrow glanced off. The deer just stood there grazing. I told him there's nothing wrong with your set up,.....use heavier points and resight your cross bow,..speed don't kill penetration kill's. I'd like to see you hunt a Caribou,... They seem to go down easy.

That’s the real deal …years ago I was lucky enough to live in the Carson ,,,in the tres piedras area of N M and our horses were all mountain bred horses that had the run of The Valley …. We’d go out find ‘em and run them back to the barn …there every one would pick their horse ,,,, it was always touch n go at first ,,, the horses were broke but would act up for a bit …. There’s nothing like 6 people ridding threw the Forrest,,,Bare back with the old model 94 or a good recurve ….. that has to be the best time of my life ….back then the rio tusas had 20 inch trout ,,, the cats would come into the ranch at night … elk were everywhere and deer would come to the apple orchard behind the house ….that’s cool that you do that bareback,,that definitely isn’t for the average hunter …

I forged my own hog knives. Whole reason I got into it. They look weird to other people but they are purpose built. I have a right and a left single bevel with a flat and the handles are bent so my knuckles clear. It's hard to explain but after a dozen attempts tuned in what works for me and not necessarily ideal for somebody else. Except my father in law. He wanted them bad and always helps so I let him keep them for when we need them. But made him make it clear in his Will those belong to me! I have a stupid amount of time on it....but was fun and learned a lot. I don't want to build another pair and wood blocks. They are crazy sharp and a light touch can result in stitches so they have a wood block rest.

From my experience if your arrow have to bend around the bow, got to have heavy point and weak spine, a 40 pound bow with out cut for arrow pass , or handle, 31 inch arrow 600 spine with 200 grain point weight will flight out so straight. What happends here is the spine is to stiff and arrow flights out very straight, its not bending around the bow, but shoots to the right , most people get use to it shooting to the right and adjust their shooting, for the most part people use to stiff of a spine on self bows, but over a distance it starts to matter alot its just not going to shoot were you aim. I do that when I shoot for distance, use 20 grain aluminum point weight, the arrow flight out so straight not waisting energy on bending the arrow but to propell the object. But o boy you can tell it goes to the right, it can be 30 yards off at 250 yard distance. Im sure in military back in the days they knew alot on how and why arrows behave in flight, its was at goverment level, like rockets and jets now a todays. Before i never cared for a spine , but some of my arrows spine was to weak and i couldnt understsnd why some fly good, some perfect and other ones would flight to the right, some would flex so mych and go to the left,, so I started studying the spine, point weight, arrow length, arrow pass. Im a left hand shooter so if your right hand shooter then its other ways arrond with arrow going to sides. Hope Im making sence here.

This guy does it right,.....When I was young,....I went out just looking for big horn's,.....now I realize how silly society's idea of hunting is. From now on I'm hunting meat, then I always take a trophy. Great video,....Ryan makes primative archery look easy,... and its not,.... well the shooting part is easy it's the making bows and arrows that's complicated.

Hei, I wood like to see how to make functionally bows of different kind of wood. I am from Finland and i like to watch at your bow making with not extra tools, using only probo knive. I think your experty is amazing. I also make bows trieing to use your method. My bows are usually of maple because here in Finland we dont have those wood like hickory, orange osage or yew. I have also tried to make bows of bird cherry with not so good succes. Hello from Risto (70) from Finland

I have been watching your channel for a long time. I like the longer, in depth, quality information that has been appearing in them. It really helps out a lot of problems you sometimes can not figure out on your own. I also love the information on topics that I myself can not do. Watching shorts only gives you a tiny window of what is going on. There worthless for this type of channel. It is like listening to a second and a half of a song. Hi Ryan, I recognized your face and clicked this short. I’m not a chronic subscriber or a hunter, but I did dabble in archery as a kid. I found your channel out of my interest in learning about primitive life/archeology. I want the minds of western civilization to root down and take a philosophical step backwards, and I value your work and am glad to provide you some traffic feedback. Specifically searching the Atlatl took me to your channel several years ago. I still tell people about your bison hunt project!

So your inspiration for your tattoos came from Keith, but do they have specific meaning? I think they look great, and I'm interested in replicating them (or something like them). I really like the tribal, geometric aspect of them. The red triangles you eventually added really bring it all together. Very well done... Now you need a hand print (wife's?) and a spiral somewhere... pictograph style.

I know you like your arrows long... do you base arrow length on your draw, or do you have a fixed length you like? My draw is about 26"... but I like arrows around 31" (but I'm still learning what works best for me). Thanks for all you do Ryan! I have a pair of your cane atlatl spears, and they are fantastic!
